GRFI Appeals to Bangladesh for the Release of ARSA Leader HF Ata Ullah
The Global Rohingya Future Initiative (GRFI) has made an urgent appeal to the Bangladeshi government for the immediate release of HF Ata Ullah Abu Ammar Jununi, the leader of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA). His recent arrest has caused widespread distress among the Rohingya community, as he is regarded as a symbol of hope and resistance in their struggle for justice, dignity, and survival.
In an official letter addressed to Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, GRFI emphasized the profound impact of his detention on the Rohingya people. The organization highlighted that Ata Ullah’s leadership has been instrumental in advocating for the protection of Rohingya rights, and his arrest poses a severe threat to their struggle for justice and survival.
Concerns Over Arrest and Due Process
GRFI has urged Bangladeshi authorities to ensure transparency regarding the reasons behind Ata Ullah’s detention and to guarantee that due process is followed in accordance with international human rights standards. The organization stressed the importance of fair treatment for all detainees and called for a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the arrest of ARSA leaders.
According to GRFI, ARSA has consistently maintained that its struggle is focused on the protection and rights of Rohingya people in Arakan (Rakhine State, Myanmar). The organization reaffirmed that ARSA poses no threat to Bangladesh’s sovereignty or security and has, in fact, expressed a willingness to cooperate with Bangladeshi authorities when necessary.
Given Bangladesh’s longstanding tradition of supporting oppressed communities and its commitment to humanitarian principles, GRFI believes that ensuring a fair trial and potential release of Ata Ullah would further reinforce Bangladesh’s regional stability and human rights commitments.
Ata Ullah’s Role in Rohingya Struggle
HF Ata Ullah is described as more than just a leader—he is a protector, advocate, and voice for justice in the Rohingya community. His unwavering commitment to the cause has inspired many Rohingya people to stand up for their rights and dignity. His detention, GRFI argues, weakens the movement and undermines hopes for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis.
GRFI emphasized that the Rohingya people’s ultimate goal is to return to their homeland in Myanmar with full rights, security, and dignity. The organization believes that Ata Ullah’s leadership has been crucial in keeping their struggle alive, and his continued detention threatens their future aspirations.
Call for Immediate Action
GRFI has called on Bangladeshi authorities and the international community to recognize the gravity of this situation and consider Ata Ullah’s immediate release. The organization argues that he has played a vital role in defending Rohingya people from the brutality of the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army (AA)—both of which have committed atrocities, including genocide, against Rohingya men, women, children, and the elderly.
GRFI stated that his detention is not only unjust but also a setback for the Rohingya’s pursuit of justice and security. The organization urged international human rights groups to raise their voices in support of his release, emphasizing that the Rohingya have no future in exile—their only path forward is a safe, dignified, and secure return to their homeland in Arakan.
Key Factors for Rohingya Rights
GRFI highlighted two crucial factors that must be addressed:
Appeal to Bangladesh’s Leadership
1. Continued support from the Government of Bangladesh, which has been a lifeline for the Rohingya people.
2. Protection and advocacy for Rohingya leaders like HF Ata Ullah, who stand for their rights and dignity.
In its closing remarks, GRFI expressed deep gratitude to Bangladesh for sheltering the Rohingya people in their most difficult time, comparing the nation’s role to that of a parent protecting a child. The organization reaffirmed its trust in Bangladesh’s leadership and wisdom to address this critical issue.
GRFI stressed that releasing HF Ata Ullah would be a significant step toward justice, peace, and a better future for the Rohingya people. The letter concluded with an urgent appeal for Bangladesh to carefully consider the impact of this decision, stating that it would leave a lasting mark on the cause of justice and the future of the Rohingya community.
