APBN Police Arrests Senior ARA Terrorist Members
March 9, 2025
The Armed Police Battalion (APBN) carried out a successful operation on the night of March 8, arresting three senior members of the Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA) in Balukhali One, Camp 8E, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. Among those arrested was Mohammad Ayub, also known as Mohammed Nur, who serves as ARA’s deputy envoy. Alongside him, Mohammad Salaam and a relative of Nobi Hussein, ARA’s commander-in-chief, were also taken into custody.
According to sources, the arrest took place at around 10 PM, after which the detainees were immediately transferred to the 8th Armed Police Battalion headquarters in Camp 9 for interrogation. The operation was part of APBN’s ongoing crackdown on terrorist and criminal activities within the refugee camps.
Following the arrests, members of ARA reportedly attempted to negotiate a ransom of 10 lakh Bangladeshi Taka (approximately 10 million Kyat) in exchange for Mohammad Ayub’s release. However, APBN firmly rejected the offer and continued to detain them for further investigation. This move signals APBN’s strong commitment to eliminating armed group activities inside the camps.
On the same night, a violent clash erupted between ARA and the Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO) in Balukhali One, Camp 8E. During the confrontation, a physically disabled Rohingya man was shot and killed. While the exact reason behind the gunfight remains unclear, sources indicate it was a result of ongoing tensions between the two armed groups. The continued violence between these factions has raised serious concerns among refugees, who fear for their safety as armed groups fight for control inside the camps.
The Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA) has been known for its involvement in armed conflicts, extortion, and other criminal activities within the refugee camps. Their growing influence has posed a significant threat to the safety of ordinary refugees. In response, APBN has intensified its operations to dismantle these groups and restore security in the region.
Authorities have not yet disclosed what legal action will be taken against the arrested ARA members. However, their capture is seen as a significant step toward weakening terrorist and criminal networks operating inside the refugee camps.
