In Pantalung District, located in the western part of Myanmar, fierce clashes have erupted between the Arakan Army (AA) and Myanmar military forces. This has raised concerns, with experts suggesting that the KPS-6 military facility might become a key military target.
The conflict began after the AA, alongside allied forces, successfully seized military stations in the Rakhine-Pegu border region, including the Taungpon Gyi and Moet hti stations. Following this, they launched consecutive attacks on military posts within Pantalung District.
According to a source from the AA, "After taking control of Pegu Kwe village in Pantalung, the joint forces, led by the AA, bypassed the Nattaung Tawatai Hill station without engaging in battle, instead advancing straight into the Nyang Kyoe village."
The conflict intensified as fighting spread along the Rakhine-Pegu border, from Pegu Kwe village to Nyang Kyoe and Nyang Zhe Htaung villages. The clashes are now escalating towards the Nyang Kyoe area.
A senior CDM officer, Zinyaw, spoke to the BBC, stating, "Military forces withdrawing from Nyang Kyoe are likely to encounter a significant resistance between Nyang Kyoe and Nyang Zhe Htaung. The KPS-6 facility, located near Nyang Zhe Htaung, is now a potential military target."
The KPS-6 factory, a key facility for military defense manufacturing, is near Nyang Zhe Htaung and produces critical materials like steel needed for weaponry. Additionally, the nearby KPS-3 factory is known for producing aerial bombs used by the Air Force, while other facilities such as KPS-9 (producing shells) and KPS-5 & 16 (producing other military materials) are also significant.
The situation remains fluid, with increasing military tensions in the region.
