CA, UN Chief Join 100,000 Rohingyas for Iftar in Ukhiya

On Friday evening, a remarkable event unfolded at a Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, where nearly 100,000 Rohingya refugees gathered for a special iftar meal. The event was graced by Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus and the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, who joined the refugees in breaking their fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
The iftar gathering, which brought together a large number of displaced Rohingya families, aimed to foster solidarity and provide emotional support to those facing hardship in the refugee camps. The meal, a symbol of compassion and unity, was shared among the refugees, many of whom have been living in challenging conditions since fleeing Myanmar.
António Guterres, who is currently on a four-day official visit to Bangladesh, arrived at the camp earlier in the day. His visit to the refugee camp underscores the ongoing international efforts to address the plight of the Rohingya people and the importance of providing humanitarian aid and assistance to those in need. The UN Secretary-General's visit highlighted the global commitment to ensuring the welfare and rights of the Rohingya refugees.
During his time in the camp, Guterres expressed his deep concern over the dire situation of the Rohingya refugees, urging the international community to continue its support for Bangladesh in managing the crisis and seeking durable solutions for the displaced population. Professor Yunus, a renowned Nobel laureate and social entrepreneur, also emphasized the importance of ensuring the Rohingyas' rights and well-being.
The event was a poignant reminder of the ongoing refugee crisis and the need for continued international cooperation to provide relief and long-term solutions for the Rohingya people.
