Myanmar has confirmed that 180,000 Rohingya refugees, out of the 800,000 currently residing in Bangladesh, meet the necessary criteria for repatriation. This announcement was reported by media outlets in Myanmar and confirmed by the Myanmar government's spokesperson on April 4, 2025.

The confirmation came from the Office of the General Advisor to the Government of Myanmar during a meeting held on that day. It marks the first official verification of the list and indicates a significant step forward in resolving the Rohingya crisis.

Previously, between 2018 and 2020, Bangladesh had sent an initial list of Rohingya refugees back to Myanmar in multiple phases. The current list includes 70,000 Rohingya individuals, and their names and photographs are currently under verification for confirmation.

Myanmar’s Deputy Minister and Foreign Minister, U Than Shwe, along with Dr. Khalilur Rahman, the Senior Diplomatic Advisor to Bangladesh, discussed this matter during a session at the 6th BIMSTEC training held in Bangkok.

Myanmar has further confirmed that it will expedite the repatriation process for an additional 550,000 Rohingya refugees listed for verification.

Additionally, Dr. Khalilur Rahman expressed his support for the Myanmar government's efforts and stated that despite the hardships Myanmar has faced, Bangladesh will continue to support the ongoing process and provide assistance.
