Students in Dhaka Join Global Strike for Gaza

Arakan Beacon News | Monday, 7 April 2025

Students from schools and universities across Dhaka took part in the Global Strike for Gaza today, joining voices worldwide in protest against Israel’s ongoing attacks in Gaza and Rafah.

At Dhaka University, students boycotted classes and gathered at the Raju Memorial Sculpture, holding banners and placards calling for an end to the violence. Similar protests were held by students from North South University, BRAC University, East West University, and Government Science College.

At North South University, students marched under the banner “Stand for Palestine,” circling the campus before forming a human chain at the main gate. Palestinian students and faculty also joined the demonstration, expressing their unity with the global movement.

Some schools, including Sunbeams and Adroit International School, officially suspended classes for the day in solidarity.

Protests also took place at Shahbagh, Tejgaon, and other parts of the city, where students and members of the public gathered to denounce the ongoing violence and demand international action.

At Jahangirnagar University, both students and faculty issued strong statements condemning the attacks, describing the actions of the Israeli military as genocide. They called on the global community to intervene and stop the killing of innocent civilians, including women and children.

These demonstrations come as Israeli forces continue deadly operations near Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital and in Khan Younis, despite a recent UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire. Since mid-March, over 1,000 people mostly women and children have reportedly been killed.

The people of Bangladesh continue to stand in solidarity with Palestine, demanding justice, peace, and an end to the suffering.
